YouTube's New Feature for Artists (2026): Invite a Collaborator

YouTube's New Feature for Artists (2026): Invite a Collaborator

Picture this: you've just shot a music video with another artist. You upload it to YouTube, but it only appears on your channel. This is what has been happening in the music industry for years — one of the two parties always lost out. Until now, because YouTube has just launched a feature that changes the game for music videos and collaborations: the new "Invite a Collaborator" option, which lets the same video appear on both channels.

And yes, this is a before-and-after. A historic shift for the music industry.

Why does this feature change the rules?

For many non-music creators it might seem minor. But for artists, producers and labels, this is a solution we've been waiting years for.

Until now, if two artists released a song together, the music video could only live on one channel. The result:

  • The other artist lost views on their channel.
  • Their fans couldn't easily find the video.
  • And YouTube only rewarded the main channel with visibility.

Meanwhile, platforms like Spotify already let two or more artists appear as primary on the same song. It was a huge red flag for YouTube in terms of music marketing.

But that's over. Now both channels can share the same video, benefiting equally in views, retention and monetisation.

How does YouTube's "Invite a Collaborator" feature work?

  1. Open YouTube Studio.
  2. Go to Content → Videos.
  3. Select the video where you want to enable the collaboration.
  4. Click "Show more".
  5. Scroll down until you find the "Collaboration" option.
  6. Click "Invite a collaborator".
  7. Type the name or channel of the artist you made the video with.
  8. You can decide whether the collaborator can see the stats or not.
  9. Create the invitation link and send it to the other artist.

When the other party accepts, the video automatically appears on both channels. Done: two communities, a single piece of content.

Also available for Shorts

The collaboration feature is also available for YouTube Shorts. That means you can create shared short-form clips with other artists, multiplying your reach and algorithmic visibility.

  1. Go to the Shorts section inside YouTube Studio.
  2. Under Details → Show more, you'll see the "Collaborator" option.
  3. Enable it, invite the other artist and… boom — both channels get the algorithm boost.

The advantages of using this feature

This new tool is pure gold for artists who collaborate. Some of its key benefits:

  • More reach: your audience + the collaborator's = greater exposure.
  • More real subscribers: each channel feeds the other thanks to the shared video.
  • More algorithmic authority: YouTube detects the collaboration and expands your reach automatically.
  • More fairness in the industry: there's no longer a winning channel and a losing one — both grow equally.
  • Better monetisation: both artists gain in views, retention and credibility.

Strategies you can apply right now

  • Update your older music videos. Send collaboration invites to the artists you already released tracks with, and recover reach and visibility on old videos.
  • Enable collaborations on future releases. Every new video can appear on two channels at once, doubling the impact.
  • Create collaborative Shorts. Ride the algorithm's huge push to reach thousands of new fans.
  • Plan new collaborations. If you used to hesitate over splitting visibility, now there's no excuse: collaborating means multiplying.

A before-and-after for music on YouTube

YouTube has just taken a giant step towards the future of digital music. This new feature isn't just a technical improvement: it's a historic shift in music marketing. The platform finally aligns with Spotify in terms of shared recognition and visibility, giving artists the chance to grow together without losing the spotlight.

Every collaboration can now be twice as powerful, adding audiences, plays and algorithmic authority. Turn on this new option, revisit your past collaborations and be one of the first to take advantage of an update that will mark a before-and-after in the industry.

Your talent isn't the problem. Your strategy is.
